My drawings translate motion picture timelines into abstract compositions. Working from my own study notes, lists and accompanying research, I work with graphite and colored pencil to create works on paper that primarily make visible the editing structures of films. My practice brings together aspects of conceptual mapping, data visualization, graphic notational scoring, and improvisational mark making. I seek to provide alternative visual means in which classic cinematic works can be envisioned, compressing a range of content into a language of marks, gesture, color, shape, and the occasional written word, navigating the world of movies through the aesthetic world of abstraction.
I received my MFA from Purchase College, State University of New York, Purchase, NY and my BFA from College of Visual Arts, St. Paul, MN. My work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions at numerous venues, including The Drawing Center, New York, NY; The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, NY; Smith-Stewart, New York, NY; Larissa Goldston Gallery, New York, NY; Frederieke Taylor Gallery, New York, NY; Josée Bienvenu Gallery, New York, NY; Feldman Gallery + Project Space, Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, OR; Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX; David Krut Projects, New York, NY; Real Art Ways, Hartford, CT and Here Arts Center, New York, NY, among others. My work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Time Out New York, Art Papers, Art Review, and Portland Mercury. I was a 2009 NARS Studio Residency Program recipient. In 2008, I was a participant in the Artist in the Marketplace (AIM) Program at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. I currently live and work in Ridgewood, NY.
